Licony Leaders and Members “Cruise” Through Leg / Reg Agenda

LICONY concluded the organization’s long-running Annual Meeting & Planning Conference at The Sagamore Hotel on Lake George. The three-day event from Oct. 3-5 was attended by over 130 participants including senior level executives, general counsels and governmental affairs professionals of the life insurance industry.

Participants were attracted to the opportunity to attend content-rich panels that offered the latest updates on legislative and regulatory changes in the industry. Much of the information came right from the source, as members of the Department of Financial Services and the NYS Legislature were featured throughout the event.

Superintendent Maria Vullo and many of her staff were in attendance and featured on the agenda. Conference attendees also had the chance to hear remarks from Senate Majority Leader Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie as each offered their unique perspectives on the coming general elections and Legislative session. Insurance Committee chairs Senator James Seward and Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, as well as ranking members Senator Neil Breslin and Assemblyman Will Barclay, also took part in the conference giving their perspectives on the insurance industry and conducting business in New York State. The conference also offered those in attendance the ability to network away from the common constraints of the office or board room.

“It is always our hope that our members find their time at our conferences beneficial as we share ideas, opportunities and challenges in a setting away from our usual places of business,” said Mary Griffin, President & CEO of LICONY. “Lake George provided a wonderful setting for our members and those who regulate and govern the industry to come together in building a more efficient and productive business environment to better serve both the life insurance industry and its customers.”

The full slate of offerings provided many CLE credit opportunities and direct access to panelists with a series of Q&A sessions. These focused and informative sessions were levied by relaxing networking opportunities. Social functions included receptions, dinners featuring Keynote speakers, and even a sunset boat cruise on Lake George.

LICONY also conducted a Board Meeting during the conference and welcomed Knut Olsen, President of Foresters, North American Life Insurance & Annuity and James J. Roth, Senior Executive VP & General Counsel of Mutual of America Life to serve three-year terms on the LICONY Board.
