Kevin H. Kelley to receive the Business Insurance Lifetime Achievement Award
Kevin H. Kelley, retired vice chairman of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.’s Global Risk Solutions business, has been named the recipient of the 2020 Business Insurance Lifetime Achievement award for outstanding accomplishments in the insurance and risk management sector.
He will receive the award at the Business Insurance U.S. Insurance Awards on March 12 in New York at the Ziegfield Theater, the publication said in a statement Thursday.
During his 45-year career in insurance, Mr. Kelley spent more than 30 years at Lexington Insurance Co., the surplus lines unit of American International Group Inc. During his tenure, he rose to be chairman and CEO and helped build it into the leading excess and surplus lines insurer in the United States.
In 2008 Mr. Kelley joined Ironshore to lead the newly launched specialty insurer. As chairman and CEO and of Ironshore, he oversaw the company from its start-up beginnings into a global excess and surplus specialty lines insurance carrier. Mr. Kelley also expanded Ironshore’s international and U.S. presence with a network of local offices offering diverse, specialty insurance coverages throughout its global platform. Ironshore was purchased by Liberty Mutual in 2017.

Mr. Kelley is a lifelong resident of New England and is recognized for his dedication to community service for a broad range of state and area organizations and educational institutions. He is currently on the board of trustees of Massachusetts’ St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Cardinal Spellman High School. In Boston, he serves on the board of overseers of WBUR, a Boston National Public Radio station, is a board advisor for the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In New York, he is Chairman of the Board of Overseers for St. John’s University School of Risk Management.
The Business Insurance Lifetime Achievement award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the risk management and insurance sector over the course of their careers. Recipients are selected by the editorial staff of Business Insurance, led by Gavin Souter, editor.
All recipients are entered into the Business Insurance Hall of Fame, sponsored by Crawford. Past recipients include 2019 Martin P. Hughes, executive chairman of Hub International Ltd.; 2018 Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and CEO of C.V. Starr & Co. Inc.; and 2017 Patrick G. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Ryan Specialty Group LLC.
