CIBGNY Campaign Needs Your Letter… and Support

The CIBGNY has called upon agents and brokers to lend immediate support to repeal an outdated and burdensome regulation affecting NYC property owners.

The Anti-Arson Application requirement, implemented in 1984, continues to create unnecessary work and risks for our clients despite no longer serving its original purpose, CIB states..

The following is from a CIB letter to its members:

“ Current Status:

  • The NY Assembly has passed Bill A112
  • Senate Bill S4157 needs additional co-sponsors
  • FDNY has reevaluated the bill and no longer has concerns

Action Steps:

  • Visit: https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator to locate your NY State Senator
  • Send them the template message below requesting co-sponsorship of Senate Bill S4157.
  • Call your Senator.

Be sure to include your full name and address, no matter what form of communication you use.  This confirms you are a constituent in their district.

Sample Message to Your Senator:

“Dear Senator,

I reside in your district and work in the insurance industry. I am writing to request your co-sponsorship of Senate Bill S4157. The Assembly companion Bill A112 has passed with overwhelming support in both this session and prior sessions.

The Anti-Arson Application requirement, established in 1984, was created when property owners deliberately setting fires was a concern. That era has long passed. Moreover, the information collected in these annual applications is now readily available through various internet platforms. The original purpose—giving Fire Inspectors quick access to consolidated data during investigations—is no longer relevant.

The requirement poses a significant clerical burden on insurance companies, agents, brokers, and most importantly, our clients—your constituents. Failure to complete this annual form results in policy cancellation, which is particularly concerning given today’s challenging insurance market where replacement coverage is difficult to secure.

Currently, there is no known opposition to the bill’s repeal. I respectfully ask that you consider co-sponsoring this bill.”

Needless to underline the fact that whether you are a CIB member or not, the fight is worth waging and will take both lobbying pressure and letters.

We applaud the CIB for taking a stand.
