Insurance and Dementia

You read that right …and it’s serious.

The Geneva Association is co-hosting and organizing a conference with Sun Life on insurance and dementia in Toronto, on 14 and 15 November. The conference will focus on dementia, its current and future costs and the role of insurance in covering this risk. Speakers will touch upon the medical, economic, financial and societal impacts of dementia, as well as the future prospects of this degenerative condition. To be proper, D. Scott Liebert, CIC, of Nanuet, N.Y., was elected by the Professional Insurance Agents of New York State, Inc. to represent the association as director for the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents. Scott is past chairman for CLG Insurance in Nanuet. An active member of PIANY, Liebert served as president of the association in 2008-09 and presidentelect of the association in 2007-08. Currently, Liebert is a member of the Nomination and Member Benefits & Services Committees. He also is an ex-officio member of the Westchester/Rockland County Advisory Council. In his local community, Liebert serves as president of the Nanuet Rotary Club. He served on the board of directors and as treasurer of the Rockland Business Association and has served as chairman for Meals on Wheels of Rockland County. Liebert served on the board of directors and as chairman for the Work Investment Board of Rockland County and received the Business Person of the Year award from the Rockland County Girl Scouts. He also serves as a committee person for the Republican Party. We wish him the best and appreciate PIA’s inclusion of New Yawkers on its Board, especially bright ones…..The Central New York insurance community honored Joseph D. Falcone, AAI, of the Dominick Falcone Agency, Inc. as the 2011 Insurance Person of Distinction. The lifelong Syracuse resident received the award during the 51st annual Syracuse Insurance Day Conference, Central New York’s largest insurance event, held Oct. 18 at the OnCenter Convention Center in Syracuse. The Syracuse “I” Day Committee presented the award in recognition of his contributions to the insurance profession and to the Central New York community. Since 1973, Joe has worked at the independent insurance agency his grandfather opened 91 years ago. He began his career selling life and property-casualty insurance and real estate. He and his brother purchased the agency from their father and uncle in 1982. With a staff of two dozen people, the agency now provides insurance and employee benefits programs to households and businesses throughout Central New York.

In addition to growing the agency, Falcone has been a frequent volunteer in organizations within and outside the insurance industry. He has served on the board of directors of the Independent Insurance Agents of Central New York. From 2004 to 2007, he was a member of the board of directors for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York, participating in legislative activities and serving on that body’s audit committee. He has also volunteered for diverse organizations such as the Dewitt Rotary Club, the Dewitt Little League, the Dewitt Zoning Board of Appeals, the Syracuse Northwest Community Center, and Festa Italiana, a festival celebrating all things Italian and held every September in downtown Syracuse. A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, where he earned All-City and All-Upstate honors as a football player, Falcone holds a bachelors degree from the State University of New York University at Buffalo and the Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation.joe’s a solid guy who merits this accord and does honor to his family and agency.
